Dr Rincy Patel is a physician practicing Homeopathy in Ahmedabad. Dr Rincy Patel has over five years of experience practicing medicine. Apart from the association with different hospitals, Dr Rincy Patel has put skills to the test in many other ways. Here is HerStory.
An aesthetic physician, a Homeopathic doctor, a diabetes physician, an educator, and a public speaker for women and child development issues, Dr Rincy has successfully played every role with elan and panache. However, growing up it was her mother who instilled the dream of pursuing the medical field in her.
“I have seen my mom struggle since I was young she was a registered nurse who worked so hard that she could hardly see me at home. Says Dr Rincy, “She always wanted me to become a doctor. At that point, I was very little to make decisions to be into the health care field but I choose it by trusting my mom’s instincts and look here I am successfully healing people and changing lives for many years”, she adds smiling with a sense of pride.
Rincy completed her Masters’ degree in hospital management and is an active member of the Christian medical association of India CMAI. She has done her Post graduation in cosmetology & skin aesthetics and trichology & Hair aesthetics, and skin lasers treatment.
She later went on to be a Diabetes Physician and completed her degree from the National Institute of Diabetes. She has experience in stress management and counseling in her clinical career and plays the role of a clinical psychologist as well.
On asking what inspires her in her profession, Rincy answers, “Everything. Right from the hellos of my dear patients who make my morning cheerful no matter how hard my day begins, to making me feel special by saying “thanks for curing my disease”. I feel so touched when they bringing me homemade food and such little things which inspire me a lot to carry on every day”.
But of course, it is not easy. There are days when she feels like not showing up. “But then I tell myself that there are a bunch of people who are waiting to meet me I cannot skip that. The love they give me when I heal them inspires me each day to work better than yesterday”.
Struggles and hardships while growing up
“I feel the struggle is a part of life in any profession but for a human-like me it was almost impossible to become a doctor I have literally chased this prefix, it was the first year of my college and I was told by many of my classmates & teachers that I should not apply for Homeopathy, that I won’t be able to crack this course.
But two people believed in me and said I should do this- my mother and my maternal late grandmother. These two pushed me to give my best. I wasn’t a bright student. I was somebody who scored so less that everyone else felt I could not crack this course but I did with these two strong women standing by my side.
What do you think is lacking in healthcare in India especially when it comes to women’s health?
“I was also in Government sector in the initial days (that was my first job) as Resident medical officer I was posted in a rural area and I handled 21 villages at that time I feel we need to change the way women still have to shy asking for sanitary pads, they still struggling for voices, they still do not have voices I hope this changes soon. I also feel a serious drawback of India’s health service is the neglect of rural masses and it really needs big attention from the government”.
Rincy feels very strongly about women’s health issues. “I feel breastfeeding pods are should be installed in all the places. There were huge discussions about it from the government and they installed booths in railways, and stands but I still feel It should be in every office where women are working, and also in the public places it should be installed”.
“Menstruation leaves are already offered by many countries so why can’t we give that to each women employee that really is a need of an hour”.
With such a diverse portfolio as Rincy’s, time management can be an issue but she says she manages it well. “I am a very scheduled person in life when it comes to management: When I am working it’s only me and my work when I am off work I would probably switch off my cell but my professional life would not allow me to do that!” she laughs.
Maintaining a work-life balance
“For me honestly speaking there is nothing called as work life or personal life I am a workaholic and I cannot sit idle. I need something to do, I need activities to continue my day. I prefer doing gardening while I am home, probably will be reading for the next 2- 3 hours. I invest a lot of time reading books, especially medical books which improves my knowledge. Other than these, I love cooking. I am not a pro but I am learning that from my mom on my week offs”.
A doctor with a diverse profile and vocal about women’s health is the type of role model the society and healthcare need more of.
