Growing up, I always heard — “Pahadon ka mausam aur Bambai ka fashion kabhi bhi badal sakta hain!”
Well, given the fast-paced era we live in and the amount of carbon we generate, both are true!!
“Being a shopaholic since a young age, I always had this knack for fashion. I always ended up buying clothes from every place I visited. When I got married and shifted back to India, I realized that it was high time to pursue my passion, i.e., fashion,” says Agnijita. “The idea was to design and create clothes for myself which weren’t available in the market — to bring a unique point of view to every clothing and finally create my own clothing line which would define a modern-day woman with a strong sense of culture and heritage.”
The 27YO started her professional journey with Jet Airways as a flight attendant. She quit her job after a semester to join Emirates and got settles in Dubai. “Now Dubai gave me another perspective and exposure to life and made me the way I am today — unapologetically confident. I visited more than 60 countries while working and also became a prominent social media influencer. I knew that Fashion & Lifestyle was going to be my forever genre,” she continues.
For Agnijita, it was all about creating a sense of empowerment and going beyond the boundaries. “I never intended, neither ever want to, to restrict our designs to a specific genre as I feel fashion should mean no boundaries. I wish to make a change — with bold and beautiful outfits which are suitable for every skin colour, every shape and every kind of woman,” she adds. This also includes the affordable price range, which she is keeping for all the outfits so that none of the consumers feels left out.
The Kolkata entrepreneur was raised in a strong women-opinionated environment and wished to pass the same to every possible woman. “Our team consists of only female members, and all of them are great at their work. They are equally passionate, enthusiastic about fashion too,” Banerjee proudly mentions.
Being an overweight teenager herself, Agnijita always found herself away from the crowd, but she realized that physical appearance is just a sham when she started living by herself. Agnijita strongly believes that fashion is an integral part of women’s confidence, and she wants her brand to be a part of every woman’s life.
Quench A Thirst was started in July 2020 amidst the pandemic, and sincere, there was not much recreation to do; Agnijita believes that it was the perfect opportunity to seize.
“Being not from an entrepreneurial background, this venture is a first-hand experience for me. I learned several things — it’s not always as fancy as it looks from the outside. Neither having a sense of fashion proves that you can create a successful brand. I had to find the right vendors, right fabrics and right quality. My sister helped me in making the whole marketing strategy. There is actually a lot more that goes even before starting the whole venture. Making a proper business and investment plan ought to be the first main thing that one should do,” the founder shares, who started with an initial investment of INR 8 lakhs. She further plans to expand her brand globally by launching more collections.
“I have always been very curious and progressive in my vision. I have learnt that you are the only one who can make yourself look beautiful and confident. I believe amazing things happen to you when you take the risk,” Agnijita shares who herself was turned down by several people for sharing her business ideas. “My success will be determined by the actions I take, and even if I fail, I will be satisfied that this was my own choice,” she says.
“I am one of you. I am no expert, but I can only say that expertise comes through experiences. Always listen to your inner voice and take that risk. I have seen many failures, but I still take one step at a time, every day, and enjoy my journey. Do that. Enjoy your journey so that when you look back, you can say, ‘it has been an incredible journey, and I made it’,” Agnijita ends it on this inspiring note.
